Dear Friends,
It was jarring to watch the House impeachment managers make the case against Donald Trump’s insurrection.
I was at the U.S. Capitol on January 6. I experienced the growing chaos and saw the crowds building before the attack. Still, it is deeply unsettling to see frightening new footage and understand the full picture that has been presented during the impeachment trial.
The American people saw just how close we came to an unmitigated disaster, massive bloodshed, and more harm to government officials, staff, Capitol Police and others simply doing their duties.
Last week, Liz Cheney, the third-ranking republican in the House, kept her position as a result of a secret ballot among her GOP colleagues who didn’t have the courage to stand up for her publicly after she voted to impeach the disgraced former president.
There’s little doubt in my mind that if the impeachment vote were a secret ballot, even this Senate would convict Trump. Sadly, it won’t be a secret ballot and it’s doubtful that republican senators will find the courage of their convictions, even though Donald Trump threatened their very lives.
Now that the House impeachment managers have rested their case, I want to hear from you.
