Dear Friends,
Today, the House voted to send the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to President Biden’s desk for his signature. While the legislation isn’t perfect, it will make a big difference in fixing our crumbling bike lanes, sidewalks, roads, and bridges, expanding access to broadband, protecting us from wildfires, and replacing lead pipes that are poisoning schoolchildren, while creating family-wage jobs in the process.
I authored several key provisions included in this legislation that make polluters pay to clean up the toxic legacies they have left in our backyards and ends the carnage on our streets and roadways for pedestrians and cyclists. The legislation also supports the work of Albina Vision to reconnect neighborhoods that have been divided by infrastructure projects.
Now it’s time for us to complement this legislation with a seismic investment in working families and our human infrastructure. I share many Oregonians’ frustration that Congress has not yet reached an agreement on the Build Back Better Act and will continue to do all that I can to ensure it not only passes, but is as robust and progressive as possible. America cannot be left behind the rest of the world, and today’s vote demonstrates that we won’t be.
