Dear Friends,
As we work to slow the Omicron surge in Oregon, I wanted to share resources to protect yourself and your loved ones from COVID-19 and minimize its impact on our community.
Last week, the Biden administration launched a program to deliver four FREE at-home COVID-19 tests to every household in America. If you haven’t already, you can order your tests online at https://www.covidtests.gov. If you have limited access to the internet or need additional help placing your order, you can call 1-800-232-0233 to order your four FREE at-home COVID tests.
I am working with my friend Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to make available more than one delivery per household, which is necessary for many Americans who reside in multi-family and multigenerational households. I will keep you updated on this effort.
Regular screening for COVID-19 is an important step in getting this virus under control and reducing the impact it has on our communities.
There are also several rapid and PCR testing options available in our community. Last week, the Oregon Healthy Authority announced the Portland Expo Center would reopen as a one of several high-volume vaccination and testing sites in Oregon. The site is open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. No appointment is required.
To find another FREE vaccine or testing site near you, please visit https://getvaccinated.oregon.gov/#/locator?lang=en.
Finally, I also want to make sure you hear about another development: you can now get reimbursed by your insurer for at-home test purchases. Make sure to save proof of purchase as well as the box for your test kit and visit your insurer’s website to fill out a claim. I am also working to expand this coverage to Medicare, which currently does not cover at-home tests without a health care professional’s order.
We will put this virus behind us. But we each need to do our part by wearing masks, getting vaccinated and boosted, and testing regularly.
